The National Police Service Commission has declared vacant position of DIG KPS pursuant to Section 13 of Act No. 11A of 2011. Pursuant to Article 245(3) of the Constitution of Kenya on recommendation and appointment of Deputy Inspector General Kenya Police Service as read together with article 246 (3)(a) on the mandate of the Commission to recruit person to hold offices in the National Police Service, the National Police Service Commission advertises the vacant position of Deputy Inspector General, Kenya Police Service.
Subsequently, the Commission invites applications from qualified persons who wish to be considered for the position of Deputy Inspector General – Kenya Police Service.
1. Requirements for this Appointment:
Pursuant to Section 11(2)(3) of NPS Act 2011, a person qualified for appointment as Deputy Inspector General
– Kenya Police Service should have the following qualifications:
a) be a citizen of Kenya;
b) hold a degree from a university recognized in Kenya or has equivalent qualifications;
c) have had a distinguished career in their respective fields;
d) meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution;
e) have served the Police Service for at least fifteen years and has knowledge and experience in matters
relating to any of the following disciplines—
i. criminal justice;
ii. policy development and implementation;
iii. finance and public administration;
iv. strategic management;
v. security;
vi. law;
vii. sociology; or
viii. Government.
f) be serving police officer of the rank of Assistant Inspector -General of Police or above.
2. Duties and Responsibilities
The Deputy Inspector-General for the Kenya Police Service shall subject to the direction, command and
control of the Inspector-General
i. be responsible for the effective and efficient day-to-day administration and operations of the Kenya
Police Service;
ii. implement policies and directions of the Service in relation to the Kenya Police Service;
iii. prepare the budget, planning and provision of support for the Kenya Police Service;
iv. establish and maintain police stations, outposts, units or unit bases in the counties and determine the
boundaries of the police stations, outposts or unit bases and establish a facility in each police station for
receiving, recording and reporting of complaints from members of the public;
v. manage, monitor and evaluate the Kenya Police Service;
vi. undertake the supervision of the Kenya Police Service;
vii. co-ordinate training in the Kenya Police Service;
viii. provide internal oversight of the Kenya Police Service;
ix. establish and maintain a relationship between the Kenya Police Service and the community;
x. improve transparency and accountability in the Kenya Police Service;
xi. co-operate and engage in joint security operations with the Deputy Inspector-General, in charge of the
Administration Police Service, other Government departments or other security organ in order to ensure
the safety and security of the public;
xii. implement the decisions of the Inspector-General;
xiii. issue general, special, routine and standing orders in respect of the Kenya Police Service; and
xiv. perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Inspector-General, or as may be prescribed by this
Act or by any other written law.
3. Salary and Benefits
The gross monthly salary and benefits attached to this position will be as determined by the Salaries and
Remuneration Commission vide Kenya Gazette No. 8792 Vo. CXXIV- No. 154 of 27th July 2022.
